Fire Pumps

Pumps – Acceptable water pressure in the public water distribution system must be maintained at all times for firefighting system to function properly. If the pressure in the public water distribution system is inadequate to supply the pressure needed to assure an adequate volume of water at an effective pressure, a stationary fire pump with automatic or manual starting is connected to the firefighting system. Fire pumps are necessary where the pressure in the distribution system is inadequate to reach the top floor of high-rise buildings, typically above ten stories. The pressure requirements are generally at 65 psi at the highest outlet within the building. These pumps can create backpressure.
