Gravity Water Storage Tanks

Gravity Water Storage Tanks – Gravity water storage tanks are connected to fire protection systems in addition to the public water distribution system.  The gravity tank provides a constant source of pressure to the fire protection system standpipe or sprinkler system. The public water system may be directly connected to the gravity tank to prevent it from being emptied during a fire.  The public water system shall be backflow protected since the gravity tank has the potential or creating backpressure. They may be located on the roofs of buildings or are standalone tanks. The water is the storage tanks are typically non-potable and they are privately owned. They are for the most part not under the control of the public water system.
