The Principle Operation of a Dual Check Valve with Intermediate Atmospheric Vent – Backflow Prevention Device – Intermediate Atmospheric Vent and Drainage

The DCVwIV is designed to discharge water from intermediate atmospheric vent under certain conditions. The discharge of water from the intermediate atmospheric vent may cause water damage to the surrounding area or equipment. To avoid possible water damage, a drainpipe shall be installed to collect any discharge that may occur from the intermediate atmospheric vent. The discharge pipe should terminate approximate 12″ above a floor drain or through an air gap piped to a floor drain, or other suitable place of disposal. The intermediate atmospheric vent should never be piped directly into a drainage ditch, sewer or pump. Under no circumstances should the intermediate atmospheric vent opening or drain line be plugged. Discharge or leakage of water from the intermediate atmospheric vent during flow condition is not normal and is an indication that there may be a problem with the DCVwIV.
